In the fourth session in Asian trde dollar gained to a six-month high against euro and hit a near five-month peak versus a basket of currencies boosted by speculation over higher interest rates in the United States.
The euro slipped as low as $1.3990 on trading platform EBS, the lowest since mid-July, before trading at $1.4003, down 0.1 percent on the day. The dollar index, a gauge for the greenback's performance against other six major currencies rose as far as 78.867, the highest since early September.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee resisted further decline against dollar, recovering 25 paisa for buying and selling at 86.00 and 86.10, dealers said. The rupee also gained 25 paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 120.50 and Rs 121.00, they added.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged amid low trading activity in the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the moneychangers, there was no change in dollar's demand and supply situation that helped rupee stability. The dollar resumed trading at overnight closing of Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.50, as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day and finally closed at the same level, they said.
On the contrary, the rupee could not maintain its position and registered decline against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 138.50 and Rs 139.50, as compared to last day closing of Rs 138.20 and Rs 139.00, respectively, the moneychangers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further fluctuation in the second spell and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling).
